Description
While this video is aimed at the beginning carver, advanced carvers will definitely benefit from working through the four-quadrant carving exercise that is at the heart of this simple sunflower.
The video is broken into 3 parts and is a total of 2 hours in length.
In Part 1 Dylan gives a brief explanation of the different carving tools and tool numbering systems along with how to use a bench-hook safely. After which Dylan gives an in-depth explanation on how to carve with the grain of the wood and then demonstrates the four-quadrant carving method by carving a donut shape in relief using only a beginner set of carving tools.
In Part 2 Dylan will guide you through the process of turning the donut shape into a sunflower by demonstrating how to texture the center of the sunflower and then carve the flower petals.
Part 3 is about painting the sunflower using acrylic paints.
