The Magician carving is made entirely from basswood and measures 24″ tall, 18″ wide, 16″ deep. Dylan used a clay model (which Dylan created while studying with master carver Fred Zavadil) to refine the design before starting the carving process. The carving process took 3 months to complete, and required almost every carving tool that Dylan has in his arsenal…including a chainsaw.
If you’re interested in seeing how a carving like this starts out, and the progression that it goes through while being carved then you should check out Dylan’s Facebook page where he uploaded all of the work in progress pictures that he took of the Magician while carving it.
